Was thinking about Apple TV and devices like it.
Suggestions on any of them are welcome!

I couldn't be happier with my Roku 3. Fantastic device.

Get yourself a NUC , and be done with it. HTPC is a great use for the Metro/Modern UI in Win8x

I actually have a NUC sitting here for that exact reason. We have always just run windows on our HTPC's. I'm just curious if running something like a Roku would give us access to enough free services to make it worth it.

We usually just run an HTPC on the TV, but I went ahead and ordered a FireTV, we have amazon prime, so that's a plus and have a subscription to netflix, while plex get's me anything I download. The only downside for me is that I can;t watch any streamed hockey games (A VLC client would fix this for me)

I use to use a Seagate HD Theater Plus that I got of Newegg for $45. Great device for 720p but struggles with high bitrate 1080p. I have also used a Chromecast with the PLEX plugin on my wireless 1080p with no issues. Now though I have a 15ft HDMI connected to one of my GPU display ports, and simply extend my displays. That is in my opinion the best way to have access to everything with zero hiccups (wired connection not wireless). I prefer to keep my PC in the living room so I'm not off in a different rooms neglecting to spend time with my family when I'm home. "Happy wife happy life" and all ;) .
