Late last week CNN/fortune magazine had an interesting article comparing the life cycles of the PC and Consoles. Because they have extended the life of the consoles out longer this generation it has helped the PC grow as console sales have slowly dropped. Its an interesting read for all of those interested. We also noticed there is a quote from Nvidia in there as well.

I can see that. I remember when the 360 came out back in what '05 or '06 and I think the 6800 Ultra was the top dog at that time before the 7900 GTX launched and the 2 were pretty much neck and neck and on some titles the 360 looked better.
Now it seems that there has been a hardware war again for PC manufactures because to me it seems they are pumping GPU's out like every 4-6 months compared to 6-12 months of yesteryear. The console manufactures are going to have to draw a line somewhere, we already know nobody wants to pay 600+ for a game console so if they keep trying to up the graphics output on those than the price will continue to go up to the point only the diehard will shell that cash out to get it first while others wait for a year or so to see a price drop. I have a feeling Microsoft and Sony will start to design their equipment to be more media hubs than game machines which we are already seeing with the 360 and Kinect and all the useless crap they are adding with each update. Just my 2 cents. |
