Seagate FreeAgent GoDock+

IMG_5357 [lr] [lrsm]Yesterday I took a look at the FreeAgent Go, I came out thoroughly impressed with Seagate's portable hard drive and awarded it with our gold ribbon. To go along with the Go today I will be taking a quick look at their FreeAgent GoDock+, a dock for their go series that includes a USB hub also. Given the performance and quality of the Go I have little doubt that the dock+ will perform just as well.

Packaging

The FreeAgent GoDock+ is packed in a package similar to the Go but this time around you can't see the product in full view. Instead you are greeted with a picture of the dock on the front along with a few comments on how you can use the GoDock+ with your FreeAgent Go. The back is similar to the Go packaging in the way that it has a listing of what is in the box along with system requirement. Inside you will find a odd shaped cardboard box with the dock, USB2.0 cable, power cable, and a Protective travel case for your Go hard drive.

Installation

Installing and setting up the GoDock+ includes plugging in your power adapter and the USB cable. With both plugged in you are free to "dock" your Free Agent Go for the first time. The drive slides in easily and once docked is connected to your PC right away. When you unhook your drive be sure to hang on to the dock as it may want to come with the Go. A little more weight in the dock might fix that issue, but just being cautious will also take care of it.

Overall

There really isn't a whole lot to say about the GoDock+. It is simple to hook up and stylish when sitting on your desk with or without the drive attached. The three included USB ports give you the option to hook up your mouse, keyboard, and even a USB headset if needed all without pulling your PC out. To me the best part about the GoDock+ is that when you bring your portable hard drive hold and want to sync, you don't have to dig out the USB cable. This way you don't have to worry about forgetting the cable at home, trust me I've done that! With a MSRP of 39.99 the GoDock+ is a little pricy, but if you look around you will find a few better deals. And considering a good USB hub and case for your FreeAgent Go is included I would definitely recommend it as a companion to your Go.
