Failing HD was created by Mike02929
Wanted to run this past the experts here...

My hard drive is about to fail (it's clicking when the system boots up) and I'm looking for a solid program to basically copy a mirror image over to a new HD I just bought. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I've used Clonezilla in the past before but mostly I just clone my Windows drives with OS X's Disk Utility which doesn't help you haha.

Drive Image XML www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm

Or if you can get a dock, and Norton Ghost ;)

Back up the data and then try running spinrite on it. If it's only a bad sector, it will fix it.

If its just one bad sector, and the disk is still bootable, just run chkdsk. Ive seen the one in Win7 bring dead XP machines back to life!

But since he said its clicking, no need to even try spinrite or chkdsk. Get it backed up and get it the heck out of there!

If it's clicking because it's trying to read bad sectors over and over, spinrite would save you from possibly buying a new drive.
