LanBox V2! was created by Wingless92
Just got done ordering the parts. I did this cause I was getting tired of the Shuttle. It's a great little computer that never gave me problems but I just wanted something that would stand out more. Also the new Z68 chipset is out and I wanted to let me hand do some overclocking with an i7 2600k.

So here we go. This is gonna be fun.

Case - Silverstone Fortress FT03
PSU - Corsair HX750
MoBo - MSI Z68MA-ED55
CPU - Intel i7 2600k
RAM - Corsair 1333mhz from the Shuttle
GPU - EVGA 560Ti from the Shuttle
CPU Cooler - Corsair H60
SSD - Intel 80gb X25M From the Shuttle
HDD - Western Digital 2TB Caviar Black From the Shuttle

Should have the stuff here soon, probably on Friday.

That's why I went with the i5 2500k. You're not getting anything that's useful for gaming.

Ahh, but wouldn't one of the hexacore cpus be better then? I'm assuming money is no object though.

No I was strapped on cash that's why I am reusing a bunch of stuff from the Shuttle. Save money wherever possible.

Sure the 990x would be better for that but I didn't want to spend that much. I'm not made of $$$.

So we are off and running. Got all the parts in yesterday from the UPS guy.

I have to take some more pics. I think that I need someone else to take pics while I do this kinda stuff. I get into building and forget to take pics.

Had a couple of problems with Steam launching games so I transferred my entire Steam folder off the big computer to the LanBox and it seems to be working fine.

Another thing, I am not sure if it always does this but I want Steam to auto update my games. I had to go thru each of my games and select "Always keep this game up to date". Most of the time its not a big deal but it took me over an hour last night. I wish there was a setting for this for all games.

Other than that its running great. I had it overclocked pretty high but I really didn't see the need. So it's back to stock.

I am having problem updating the BIOS too. When I download the BIOS file it says that it's not for this OS. There is only one listed on the MSI site, I will have to figure this out.

Finally got around to taking some finished pic's. It turned out great and i'm really happy with it. It runs nice and cool. The only thing that i've seen is that the HDD does run a bit hot. I have seen 51C but 98' of the time it runs at 45'. It was running that hot when I was transferring 1TB of Steam games over the network to it for 5 hours. Regular use it stays at 45'.

Here at the finished pics.

I like the case it has certain appealing qualities, but how was the fit and finish? What was your overall satisfaction level while building and managing what cables you used in such a confined space? I have to say as a novice I thought pictures looked really good and offered great views of the system and components.

Decided to keep the 560 from the last build? I thought for sure you spring for the 580, since there's more room and more PSU in this one.

The fit and finish it not bad. The side panels come off maybe a bit to easily but its not like they just fall off whenever you touch them either.

As for routing the cables and such its pretty well thought out. Seems that Silverstone took their time with it and though gee, that cable will go their and this one will go there, we might want to make holes for those.

This case is a prime example of why Modular PSU's are the way to go. You wouldn't want to use a standard PSU on this case at all. It could be done but the end result would suck. There is just not enough room for all of the cables.

The only connections that I have on the PSU are the 2 6+2pin PCI power cables and 1 Molex cable with I think 4 connections on it. One of the connections runs all the fans with the included adapter from the case, one is for the hot swap 3.5in bay and the other one is Molex to sata for the SSD. I didn't want to run another cable from the PSU just for the SSD so I used the adapter. I also found a new home for my Icy Dock that I bought when I built the Shuttle.

Nacelle - I would of gone with a 580 but their was no reason to spend more cash when the 560 is working fine. With everything cranked it pulls 120fps in Starcraft 2.

I have seen some builds with SLi/Crossfire in these cases but it seems to me that the cards struggle with airflow. When you do that there just isn't enough and things get hot.

I will say this. With the Corsair H60 installed the RAM in this thing really runs cool. The heatsinks are cool to the touch even after gaming for an hour. That 120mm fan blowing cool/filtered air on the Motherboard really seems to help out.

I would bet a dollar that you upgrade the video card within a year. Not because its needed, but because its fun.

Starcraft 2 isn't a very good gauge of how well your graphics card is doing. See where Metro 2033 with everything maxed puts you.

I agree Chris but big gaming duty's like Metro are for the Big Rig, lol.

Not sure if i'll go back to it but it would be fun to crank it and see what she pulls FPS wise.

I picked up a real cheap folding table from Wal-Mart to throw LanBox on. This is it's new home until LanOC V9.0.

As with my 580's in the Main rig I just picked this up.

Kinda sucks that I don't have a window on my case but nonetheless I still like the look of it. Just too bad you won't be able to see it unless the panels are off.

I guess you could say I'm fully backplated with all of my GPU's.

I just posted on EVGA's forums and I told Jacob that I wish they would put these on all of their GPU's from the start.

They just really set the card off instead of a ratty looking PCB.

I have to hand it to AMD for making the back of their cards look awesome. Remember, that is what most of us look at, THE BACK!!!!

Put effort into the back, not the front. GESH, lol.

do you notice any temp drops on the gpu's if you added the high flow bracket on those?
