My last system rebuild took me from an AMD K6-2 550MHz with 768MB RAM to what I have now, AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.6GHz, 6GB DDR2 RAM. I have stretched this platform well beyond its fully useful life, and its time to move on. I believe I will retire this unit into WHS use... There it shall serve me much better than the 1.6GHz Sempron I have now.

So the specs of this build are so:
Silverstone Raven RV01
Intel Core i7 2600K
ASUS Maximus IV Extreme Z
16GB G.Skill Ripjaw X DDR3 1600
Intel 520 Cherryville 120GB SATA III SSD
Hitachi 2TB SATA^
Coolermaster Silent Pro 1000W Fully Modular PSU
Corsair Hydro Series H60 Liquid CPU Cooler
EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Classified ULTRA
2 Asus VE276Q 27" Monitors

Pictures will follow very soon.

Finally with an update with pics here.

Pardon the coloration of the pics, the lighting in my workspace isnt very good.

Starting with a Silverstone Raven RV01, I am replacing the front power LED lights with a Larson Scanner. For more information about a Larson scanner, look here: Evilmadscientist.com .

Removed the sides and front panel

Got the top removed...

This is the holder that normally holds the front panel lighting. Most of the modding will be here.

Measured and drilled pilot holes for the Larson Scanner LEDs

Open them up a bit more, and they fit perfectly!

Ive also had a change in the hardware that is going inside....
Trading the Intel Core i7 2600K for a Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy E
Switching the ASUS Maximus IV Extreme Z for teh ASUS Rampage IV Extreme X79
Replaced the Coolermaster Silent Pro 1K with a OCZ ZX 1250.

Finished the Larson Scanner tonight...

Now with the micro controller, capacitor, mode button, and battery box.

The battery box will be removed, and a power LED motherboard header will be attached.

Took apart some old CAT5 cable for its internal wiring. The way the kit works, it wants me to solder the LEDs directly to the board. I need them to extend about 16" to the front of the case. These wires will do that.

All wires soldered and ready to go!

9 red .5mm LEDs.

Its ALIIIVE!!

Watch the video to see it in action!

Enjoy!

It would be cool to have like a dark cover in front of it so you get the BSG Cylon effect.

I had thought of tinting the front cover, but that will have to wait until later.

I was up until 1:30am building this.... still not done. Hopefully finishing up tonight with pics.

Yep, we talked about it, but for now, its just gonna stay white. It actually diffuses the LEDs pretty good. Perhaps before v11, ill tint the light cover.

Update!

Used a hole saw to cut these holes. The wire harness for the Larson scanner will run through these to reach the front of the case.

Top panel with holes re-attached.

Scanner Attached. The way it sits, I can reach in and press the button to change the scanning speed if I want.

Hot glue the LEDs in their respective holes.

Part Roundup!

SSD vs HDD. Both useful.

All assembled with wiring complete!

Little closer. Great pic of the 16GB G.Skill RAM, and Corsair H60.

Overall view.

Press Start to begin!

This light illuminates the bottom chamber of the case.

Motherboard and cooler lighted.

Scanner Activated

Overall lighted without side panel.

Lighted bottom chamber

Thanks for looking!
