IMG_5132 [lr] [lrsm]When it comes to headphones and microphones for aviation and some of the biggest names in music they have relied on Sennheiser products for years. It was only natural that they would venture into the gaming headset market. In the time sense then, they have made a name for themselves with high quality sound along with microphones. Their most recent gaming headset the PC-350 is their top dog with full over the ear cups that I love so much. After a little begging they sent a pair for me to try out, let's see if they live up to their reputation.

Packaging

There is no doubt that Sennheiser wanted to showcase the PC-350's with their packaging. With the right side being all clear plastic you can see half of the headset along with the microphone. The rest of the packaging includes a bald guy in a military outfit wearing the PC-350's and a few comments about how you are in command and this is the ultimate headset for total G4ME control. On the back you will find all of the goodies with a full feature and specification breakdown. If having half of the headset visible on the right side wasn't enough they also included a window on the left side to get a view of the other side. Inside the headset was packed tightly in plastic to keep it safe, so safe in fact that it is difficult to get out without a box cutter or knife.

Comfort

The PC-350’s are the most comfortable headset I have ever worn! The ear cups are very large and go all of the way around your ears without touching them. Because of that you don’t experience fatigue after extended periods of time. Due to the closed ear design your ears will get hot, but they don’t heat up as fast as other closed ear designs I have reviewed in the past. The head band bulges from all of the padding in it, and when you are wearing them as long as everything is adjusted correctly you don’t even notice the band. Speaking of adjusting, the headband adjusts easily and gives you a reassuring click each time it hits a notch. When I’m wearing closed headsets a lot of times I keep one ear off to talk to my wife or to cool my ear down, Sennheiser included the ability to flip ether of the ear cups if needed.

Performance

So the PC-350’s are comfortable, but do they sound good? The short answer is YES! They sound amazing. I came to that conclusion after living with them for a few weeks listening to TV shows and music like I normally would. Their honestly wasn’t anything that the PC-350’s didn’t make sound amazing. I found myself digging through my music collection looking for random songs to bring a new life too. The sound stage the pc-350 projects is amazing, you really feel like you’re in the studio with the artist. My only complaint is that even with everything cranked up I was looking for it to be a little louder, I’m not a fan of having to run everything turned all the way up during normal listening. Closed ear cups did help with this, you can hear absolutely no background noise (including my wife talking or yelling at me). With no background noise the lower volumes were livable; it would just be nice to have a little leeway. The Of course they sound amazing with music, that’s what Sennheiser does. But will they perform well in game? It didn’t take long to find out that yes, they sound amazing in game. They even had good directionality, amazing considering the lack of multiple speakers. The attached microphone stayed out of the way of drinks even when down, and performed well in game.

Overall

Amazing packaging – check, very comfortable – check, amazing in game and out of game sound quality – check; did they make this headset JUST for me? Sennheiser has set the bar for high end gaming headsets. Small details like the easy to recognize microphone and headphone plugs make all of the difference. The volume and microphone in-line control is clearly marked to make sure you don’t mistakenly turn off your microphone in the middle of a game and no one can hear you (ive done this WAY to many times with the Razer Paraná). Of course with anything of this quality and performance you’re going to have to pay for it, at almost $230 dollars MSRP it’s a Hefty price for a lot of gamers. Of course with a little digging around I was able to find a pair for almost a $100 less than MSRP. At ether price you are still getting your money’s worth and some. If you are looking for THE headset, you should take a look at the PC-350’s you won’t be disappointed.
