Here's a picture of it next to a dollar bill to give you an idea how big this is. It's not that thick either. This should fit easily into your laptop bag.

One thing that's nice about the Boom Boom is that the audio-in wire is stored in a groove that runs along the outer edge. While that's one less wire to keep track of, you still have to worry about the USB cable that provides power to the speaker. It seems to me if you're going to the trouble of designing an integrated wire keeper, why not put both wires into it? Another nit-pick I have is that the wires aren't the same length. It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it's the little things that show how much thought went into it.

Here it is hooked up to my Toshiba netbook who's onboard speakers are little bitty things on the bottom of the unit. Compared to them, the Boom Boom is vastly superior. Now, the reason I got a netbook was to be able to get my email and keep entertained while sitting next to my wife as she watches her crappy shows or sitting in bed while she nags "rub my back". The problem is, taking that speaker along with me around the house is a drag. So for the most part, it only gets used when I'm sitting at the kitchen table where there's room for it.

Looking for an excuse to watch =3 I went to youtube and watched his latest video. I could actually hear it this time..."Stalkin' your mom". What a change from leaning my head down next to the computer. After that, I moved on to some music. I scrolled through my poorly maintained collection and randomly picked different types of music to try out. The quality is exactly what you'd expect from a speaker this thin. You get decent high to mid-range, with very lackluster lows. Of course, if you crank it all the way up, it's not pretty. Let just say that Jay-Z was more than a little distorted. With a name like Boom Boom, I was expecting maybe a little more boom. Then again, this speaker isn't meant to rock the house, it's meant to be a better than what's built in. It does accomplish that.

Conclusion
This speaker is great when I want to actually hear the sound coming from my netbook. I think if you're the type of person who sits at a table or in a hotel room with your computer, this speaker system is the way to go. If you're the type who moves around the house and sets with your computer on your lap, you're going to get tired of it hanging off the side. The sound quality is ok, but nothing spectacular. Plugging a set of earphones into the computer would probably garner you better overall quality, but they don't allow more than one person to hear it either. And if you're anything like me, you hate wearing headphones. So putting up with a couple shortcomings to not have to, is well worth it.
