While the big names have been around for what seems like forever, that isn’t really the case. They all get their start at some point and brands that everyone are used to now weren’t always a big name 5-10-15 years ago or more. In this case, the Yeyian Gaming brand is new to me but after some digging, it does come from Vadeto Group which has a few other brands like Qian and Getttech and others. They have been popular in Mexico and growing starting in the States in 2017 but really starting to grow from 2020 and beyond. The Yeyian Gaming brand started off building custom PCs and has expanded to have a whole lineup of products. I have been curious to see what they were all about, so today we are going to check out the Pegasus 1000W ATX 3.0 PSU from them and see what it has to offer.

Packaging

The box for the Yeyian Gaming Pegasus 1000W was smaller than most power supply boxes that I have had come in, specifically, it is thinner, it has the same height and width as most PSU boxes. It is mostly covered in a bright green/yellow color that will catch your eye on the shelf but the front has a grey background. Also on the front is a large picture of the Pegasus 1000W as well as the 80 Plus Platinum badge. Then along the bottom edge, the front has the Yeyian logo and Pegasus 1000W branding both in a reflective gold finish. The back of the box also has a grey background and there are two more pictures of the Pegasus 1000W here one that shows the modular cable side and the other that shows the outside facing power plug end. They have a list of what you will find inside of the box and then a basic specification breakdown which touches on the ATX form factor, wattage, efficiency, cooler fan size, and more. The side of the box also has badges along it that touch on some of the main features including this being an ATX 3.0 power supply which is PCIe 5.0 ready meaning it has a 12VHPWR connection.

Once you open up the box the green wraps around to the inside with a flap that covers up most of the inside of the box. It does have an opening for the Pegasus 1000W which you can see the fan side sticking up through the cover. Under that flap, the Pegasus 1000W sits in a relatively thin foam square that keeps the power supply from moving around. This thin foam and not having any foam or padding on the fan side of the power supply are why the box was noticeably thinner than other power supplies. This will save them money on shipping but it does bring up concerns that the Pegasus 1000W  could be damaged in shipping especially if the retailer doesn’t use good padding like Amazon likes to do for example. Next to that is a separate box altogether which has the same bright green and a grey top along with the Yeyian logo in the middle. That box has all of the power supplies cables and accessories as well.

For documentation, the Pegasus 1000W comes with two small papers. One is the user guide and the other is a welcome page which also has a QR code that links to the warranty and full user manual.

Photos and Features

The Yeyian Gaming Pegasus 1000W is an ATX form factor power supply which for sizing means that we know it will be 3.3 inches tall and 5.9 inches wide. The big variable with power supplies comes down to their length and the Pegasus 1000W is 6.3 inches long. It isn’t a true squared-off design with the length matching the width but it isn’t too far off which isn’t bad for a 1000-watt power supply. It is ATX 3.0 compatible with a 12VHPWR cable connection and it is 80 Plus Platinum rated. I had a little trouble finding its testing on the 80 Plus website initially because Yeyian and Pegasus didn’t come up but I did find it under its model name, if you want to check out the testing you can see it HERE. There is one big thing to note, this was tested in 2016 and we know that 12VHPWR just came out, so it does look like they have updated the design slightly. Assuming there aren’t any changes to the internal design, it would still be 80 Plus Platinum as listed, on the packaging, and on the website but the specifications on the website do list it as an 80 Plus Gold for some reason. The design has an all-black housing with a large fan opening that is filled with a grill with hexagram cutouts across it and the Yeyian branding on the center. It has a 140 mm fan that is black to match everything else to help keep things cool.

The top of the Pegasus 1000W is completely flat without anything going on. It does give us a better look at the overall finish which has a slight texture and is surprisingly glossy once under the lights. Our Pegasus 1000W did come with a scratch in it in the corner as you can see. It doesn’t affect performance at all and is hidden away on this side but depending on your case configuration this could be facing up and visible.

Both sides of the Pegasus 1000W have sets of square holes running along the bottom edge which add a little more ventilation. One side has the Yeyian logo stamped into the steel housing and the other has a sticker that covers the entire side. The sticker side is flipped upside down so it will be readable when the Pegasus 1000W is installed with the fan facing up whereas the stamped logo is the other way for when you have it installed with the fan facing down which is more common. The sticker has the Yeyian branding as well as the Pegasus 1000W model name. Then it has a breakdown of the wattages by voltage and has all of the normal required logos and warnings as well.

The inside-facing end of the Pegasus 1000W is where you will find the modular cable connections, no surprises there.  It does also have a white sticker which has the serial number and a barcode on it. For connections, there are two rows. The top row has two larger plugs for the motherboard 24-pin which has 28 pins on this end. 18 of those are on the first plug and 10 are on the second smaller plug. Next to that are two 8-pin connections which can be used for the PCIe cables or the CPU power cables. The bottom has four peripheral cable connections on the left with 6 pins each. Then there are two more of the PCIe or CPU power 8-pin plugs. Then at the end of the bottom row on the right is the one 12VHPWR connection. All of the connections have legends printed under them in white but the 12VHPWR is just included with the PCIe/CPU connections and not labeled at all, not that you will accidentally plug anything else into it.

image 12

The outside end of the Pegasus 1000W is mostly covered in hexagon-shaped holes which help vent the air pulled in from the fan side out the back of your case. This side does have the C14 power plug inlet and above that a power switch.

image 14

The cable box comes with all of the modular cables wrapped up individually. There isn’t an extra storage bag but the box itself can do that. Our box however was already coming apart, so long term it may not hold up. Along with the cables it also has a bag with four black mounting screws and four black zip ties. The power cable is also in the box which is your standard C13 to NEMA 5-15 cable, aka your normal PC power cable.

For cables, the Yeyian Gaming Pegasus 1000W has ten cables in total with all but one of those having the flat cable design with a black finish. The last cable is sleeved with a black sleeving keeping everything in line with the Pegasus’s all-black finish. The 24-pin motherboard power is the sleeved cable and it comes in just past the 24-inch mark for length. There are also two PCU power cables which are both the same length at 29 inches. For powering video cards, the Pegasus 1000W has three different cables. There are two PCIe cables which have splittable 6+2 cables daisy chained at the end of both cables for four 8-pin PCIe connections in total. The first connection is at 25 inches and the second is 5 inches past that. There is also a new 12VHPWR cable which is 25 inches long. Every 12VHPWR cable that I have seen so far has been sleeved but this one isn’t it has the same flat cabling as the other cables. The 12VHPWR cable does have a 600-watt rating printed on it, it is hardly visible but there. Then for the peripheral cables, there are four in total, each having three connections on them at the same locations. The first plug is at 19 inches, the second is at 25 inches, and the last is at 30 inches. Three of those cables are all SATA power and then there is one Molex. With just three connections each these have a smaller gauge wire from what I can tell, the cables are extremely flexible and thin.

Overall

The Yeyian Gaming Pegasus 1000W spec-wise hits on all of the main targets for a solid 1000-watt power supply with it being 80 Plus Platinum rated, having a relatively compact design, and also including both PCIe and 12VHPWR connections for current and future video cards. Styling wise it doesn’t look too bad, but it doesn’t have anything special going on. You also get plenty of peripheral power connections but I was a little concerned with how thin the cables feel. I like the black flexible flat cables which make wiring easier, even the new 12VHPWR has them as well. The packaging was extremely compact and I am a little worried about it getting banged around in shipping, so if you do go with one be sure you order it from someone who will ship it securely.

As I have already touched on, we didn’t dive into performance testing, and with any power supply, I would still recommend checking out a few reviews that can get the power supply on a bench as well. For me, I don’t mind going with new or unknown brands with some components but power supplies can make or break everything. When they work you don’t think about it at all, but with something that can ruin every component in your PC, you do have to have some trust in it. The Yeyian Gaming Pegasus 1000W has a 10-year warranty which is solid and while they didn’t go over the top with anything it looks like it should be solid. But a warranty is only as good if you know the company will be around. With Yeyian Gaming they aren’t completely new and have been around for a while now. But they also haven’t reached full trust like a few of the brands that we have been dealing with for years.

For pricing the Yeyian Gaming Pegasus 1000W is $229 on Newegg and even cheaper on Amazon where you can get it for $201.99 right now before the additional $12 coupon that they are offering making it $189.99. For comparison, the two other ATX 3.0 compatible power supplies that are also 80 Plus Platinum and 1000 watts on Newegg are $259.99 and $269.99. So Yeyian Gaming has the Pegasus 1000W positioned to be a great budget ATX 3.0 option without going with a lower efficiency which is a great place for it to be.
