Build off was created by garfi3ld
I am curious what components everyone would use to build a $2000 dollar PC. Here is how this is going to work. Your post should only include links, prices, and names of the parts you would use to build it. You are welcome to explain why you would use specific parts if you would like.

The Requirements!

-Your total build can't cost more than $2000.00
-Shipping costs should be included in the cost of the build
-An operating system should also be included in the cost (pirating does not count). The OS should be something everyone has access too. The Ausie.edu Student Windows 7 deal is valid, everyone can take advantage of it.
-The PC should included everything needed to get it going, this means it should have a DVD drive and anything else needed to use it (this includes a monitor, keyboard, mouse, mousepad, headset, ect)

Remember you would be building the PC for how you would use it. You could invest your money into a bad-ass case if your into looks, quad cores, SLI or crossfire if your looking for a gaming rig, ect.

Please keep the conversation civil, this isn't about who can build the best rig. I am just curious what everyone's idea of a cool rig on a budget is.

Ummm.... In my world $2000.00 isn't really "budget" PC realm... It's kick butt dedicated task PC (GAMING!!!) $500.00 is more budget.... but I'll try and see what I can get for $2000.00 :)

I'm guessing using "Samples", Freebies, contest winning etc are out right :side: ;) B)

Its a budget, just not a low budget. 2k is enough to spend where you have freedom to do some creative things. But not enough to where you can just buy the best of everything.

Keep in mind that buying the monitor and everything else cuts into your budget also.

For example, someones idea of a perfect build might be a 30 inch monitor or three monitors and Eyefinity

Lets say that anything that everyone could do to get a legal copy. In other words Retail, OEM, and Student versions are fine (student would have to be the copy that everyone can buy with the Ausie email). Free wouldn't be fair, but if everyone is paying $200+ for a copy of windows the budget is going to shrink quickly.

When SC2 comes out that will be native to mac and linux.
Quake games ( quake wars) are linux/mac compatible..

I NEVER have a pool of 2k to work with so IF i had this kind of opportunity id probably use it on a Mac!

Boo to the MAC! ha ha, but i guess in the environment you work in, a MAC would be useful.
I also like the fact that even though you have $2,000.00 to spend on a system (which is a pretty large amount), no-one is buying SSD's. Just thought i'd point that out.

by the time that you have software that will run on OSX or are running Windows in boot camp on a mac there really isn't a difference right now between a mac and a pc except for quality. Since they're running Intel processors and a motherboard manufactured by a PC manufacturer ( foxcon currently i believe) it really truly is nothing but a Proprietary PC that apple has licensed to allow their OS to run on.

In my opinion the hardware quality is superior on a mac. For the most part i see less non user influenced hardware failure for macs than i do for our dells and hps.

And there really arent any drivers ( read bs finding drivers and getting them loaded) running a mac.

I wasn't trying to compare it to the conversation that took place on the $500.00 PC thread, just point out the fact that no-one bought one and maybe they wanted to but didn't think about it, maybe they could drop the 2 TB HD and buy one to loan their OS and a few games to increase load times.

If my comment was too pointed, i appologize... :(
Since i know most of the people on her personally (through multiple LANS), i try not to say anything i wouldn't say in front of them if they were in the same room as me. That's why i give JJ SKy so much crap. It's because he's my buddy. :)

I know when in finally get around to putting my $2K system together i'm going to pick up a faster HD maybe even a SSD. I might even try to get a thumb drive to use at LAN Parties! I haven't really figured out the direction i wanted to go yet. Honestly haven't turned on my PC at home this week to look anything up.

Yea I didn't pick up a SSD because I don't find them that valuable yet. They have a poor GB/$ ratio and would result in using a standard HD anyways. They do not help with gaming other then to open games / load maps a little bit faster. I'm concerned with in-game performance when I build computers for myself. As the technology improves I may include a SSD in the future, but for now it doesn't fit my style.
