Dead Space 3 on microtransactions

In an interview found at CVG John Calhoun, producer of Dead Space 3 said this:

"We need to make sure we’re expanding our audience. There are action game fans, and survival horror game fans, who are 19 and 20, and they’ve only played games on their smartphones, and micro-transactions are to them a standard part of gaming. It’s a different generation. So if we’re going to bring those people into our world, let’s speak their language, but let’s not alienate our fans at the same time."

I'm sorry but this is a bunch of bullshit. I would much rather a company tell me the truth in that "We are just trying to milk the franchise for every penny its worth." than make up some bullshit story about 19 year olds and smartphones.

Just my 2c.

Well at least Mel Brooks doesn't sugarcoat the true agenda.

Is the 19-20 range really a different generation? I'm 22 and that's no where near an accurate assessment of a "standard part of gaming" for me. Certainly wouldn't feel "alienated" without micro-transactions.

This was my response as well. I'm obviously a different age but people who are 19-20 played games before developers became greedy

I think everyone needs to read the complete article before passing judgement. Taking that paragraph out of context indeed sounds a bit ludicrous but he is reiterating a point he made earlier. From the article as a whole, it sounds like this could actually be a good start or rather the first we are going to see of a micro transaction/full retail mash up game.

It's actually going to be billed $4.48 because you forgot to charge him $3.99 for the periods add on pack, launch day DLC of course.
